Message: Prices may be determined by time invloved, but how much time is too much?

I just received a report from a new client about their last Web Masters rates.

My new client requested some price changes (about 20-30), removal of a column from a price table and a few other minor changes.

The Canadian Web Master claimed it would take 3-4 hours to make the changes at a fee of $200. Any novice could have typed all the information FROM SCRATCH in under 1 hour, an experienced web master should take half that!!

If your web master takes longer to make the changes than it takes for you to type them into Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect or some other word processor, they are lying!! It may take about 10%-30% longer than you typing, but these changes involved no major re-building of the site.

A charge of over $100 should entail a new page on the site, maybe even a new dynamic program.

Frankly, I can set up a whole shopping cart system with on-line catalog for about $250, I just finished it a few hours ago. It increased the size of the site by about 12-14 pages.

Now, my rates are a little lower than the national average. A web developer with a large office and employees will charge more, MAYBE twice my prices, much more and they are just full of themselves.
