Subject: Broken Links hurt your site's placement

Message: As a web site owner, you should always double check your site from time to time for broken links.
Broken links are places on your site that send the browser to a page that says
PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND
or something to that effect.
These broken links are observed by Google and Yahoo and it shows that your site has gone un-managed.
An un-managed site is one that is not watched or updated. Google, Yahoo and other search engines are really only interested in sites that are correct, active and up-to-date. Otherwise, they will slide your sites listing lower and lower in their priority lists until your site no longer exists.
HOW TO CHECK THIS
Checking this is very easy. Just go to your site and visit every page you can. Click through your site and make sure everything works the way it should.
If you find pages that are missing or links that go to sites that are no longer there, then you need to notify your web developer of changes that need to be made.
Many web developers have ways to keep an eye on this, but remember, your web developer may be responsible for as many as 500 web sites and tens of thousands of pages and possible hundreds of thousands of links. They will do their best, but they should be happy to hear you are looking, too.
These types of changes are typically very easy to make and should only take your web developer 5-30 minutes if they do not have to make any new pages to fill in the blanks.
