Message: Jeff;

Thank you for your inquiry at the http://www.doesmywebsitework.com site.

Unfortunately, the old adages 'buyer beware' and 'shop around' also apply to web sites. If you feel comfortable with Word Press, then do not feel too concerned. There are may sites on the Internet that use Word Press with complete success.

You can actually read up on it at http://wordpress.org/ and see that it has a lot of great capabilities. In all honesty, if you are well versed in the common word processors used in most office settings today, you can likely do just fine with it.

The other side of this situation, however, is cost. This should primarily be determined by the amount of set up your web host.developer will be doing for you. This is also where you will find the greatest degree of variance. Some of the things that will determine the cost within a company are:

1. How much setup is done in house

2. How much overhead a company has to cover (i.e. fancy office, high tech systems, large staff, area of the country/cost of living)

3. Dependance on templates or canned sites.

4. (Least likely) Desired profitability of a company.

Basically, changing over a whole site to a new system like Word Press involves nothing short of setting up a new site. Without more experience, determining fair cost for such a changeover becomes the largest challenge. Here is a basic analysis for your site and a general picture of what is 'out there'.

Your site, www.villagesidingandwindows.com has about 15 pages. There are a number of enlarging images, but that is generally superfluous. Set up of your site will likely range in the following (these are rough numbers and may vary by as much as 100% depending on factors listed above):

$200-400 - Low end - this would be simply setting up a place for you to do the work and enter your own text and upload your own pictures... basically a blank slate. It will make use of a template that is designed to simply plug in your information in an attractive layout and is typically limited by the design of the template.

$350-1200 - Mid range - includes all the above and should include the addition of most information currently on your site. Basically, providing you with what you have now, only you can make further updates to the site in the future.

$800-2000 - High range - This would venture into the area of custom design of site graphics and outside of the realm of the use of canned template sites. These types of sites are more customizable, but like a custom home, the more outside-of-the-box your requests, the higher the cost. Like a home building project, this type of site can easily get out of hand and beyond the budget.

On top of the set up of the site, you should keep in mind that there is still recurring hosting charges for the site. This will vary, too.

In determining how much you want to spend, you should carefully consider, 'how much does the site make for my company?' If it brings a lot of new business and you can directly link a large amount of money that has directly come from the site, cost may not be an issue. If it is like a business card for your company that only servers a secondary purpose, my personal recommendation is to keep costs down.

I hope this gives you a better image of what is out there and what you are being offered from your web host/developer. If you have any further questions, feel free to email

We offer a simple on-line content management system that is designed to fall within the low end price range and to be used by smaller companies that prefer to manage their own content. It is a result of a decade of development targeted toward individuals with little or no experience on the Internet. You can see more about it at our site:

http://www.webspeedsites.com/

There is also a place for you to 'Try It Now!' in the upper right corner of the site pages. This is a sample of an enhanced version of the system. Feel free to tinker around with it or use it to do a little research if you wish.

Let me know if I can be of any help in this.
